The image is the piece Barbara Dahlstedt demonstrated at the January 14th meeting. It is drafting film with a wash of black colored pencil that has be smeared around with solvent. Then the image is of the flower is drawn by erasure.
Steps: 1. Prepare drafting film by scribbling over the entire sheet with the black Prismacolor Stix. 2. Spritz a few drops of solvent over the entire sheet until it becomes liquefied and blend with a brush. This will be your ground. Allow to dry completely. 3. Trace your photo onto tracing paper to create a line drawing. 4. Using a light table and a MonoZero eraser, trace your image onto the prepared drafting film. If your ground is light, you may use a black Verithin instead, using light pressure. 5. Use a variety of erasers to lift out the light values. A blending stump may be used to blend your values slightly. The Mr. Clean eraser will take away the texture a lot, so be careful. Some texture left in your drawing is usually desirable. 6. Add darker values with the black Verithin and premier pencils. 7. Deepen your values on the back of the film. |
