November 2018 - Annual Business Meeting
Virginia volunteered her home in Tucson for the November 17 meeting.
It will be a Potluck Celebration which will include a DVD presentation of the CPSA International Show.
Finally, ATC’s were exchanged and then we took a look at some of the current artwork people brought to share. Barbara had the winning ticket for the 50/50 raffle and took home half of $45. The meeting was adjourned and the rest of the afternoon was spent learning about “Lively Skin Tones,” with Barbara Dahlstedt. We practiced the Grisaille technique where darker values (ie. Black Grape) are initially laid down to create depth in skin tones. Barbara will be presenting a similar workshop but on a much grander scale at the CPSA Convention this July in Chicago. Go Barbara!!! You do us proud! She will also be taking an album full of the many 8x8’s people contributed to represent DC212.
Kudos goes out to Debbie Sheperd for arranging the Flagstaff meeting. Not only did she organize the entire event for us, she also prepared quite a spread of goodies to get us through the afternoon until we had dinner at the Flagstaff Golf Course and Country Club. Thank you, Debbie.

Treasurer’s Report- Maureen Lueck
There was discussion again about people needing to be a current member of CPSA in order to join the local DC212. As a reminder, 212 chapter dues were reduced to $10 to help with costs since national dues are $45.
Maureen also mentioned the Denise Howard workshop, “Textures Galore” on October 26-27 in Tucson at Ward 6.
Contact information is [email protected] if interested.

Show & Tell was the next order of business followed by the 50/50 Raffle and the sharing of Trading Cards.
The next DC212 meeting is a Potluck Celebration to be held Saturday, November 17, at 12 noon at the home of Virginia Carroll. This will be our annual business meeting as well as a dvd presentation by Barbara Dahlstedt of the CPSA International Show. More info on how to get to Virginia’s house is forthcoming.
Finally, Helen Rowles presented a wonderful mixed media mini-workshop utilizing tea-stained watercolor paper and it was obvious that she had taken lots of time and energy in preparation for this. Also, it was fun seeing her classroom and meeting some of her art students who joined us for the workshop.
Respectfully submitted,

Vice President- Cindy Haase

Treasurer’s Report-
Balance- $1,145.33
Donation- $150 to Explore This CPSA
Donation- $200 to CPSA Convention
Membership Report-
CPSA currently has 31 members. Maureen proposed we reduce annual dues to $10; the thought being that more people would want to join if we require less dues since everyone must also belong to CPSA at $45. Virginia made a motion and Paula seconded it. The vote to reduce the dues from $15 to $10 was unanimously approved.
Maureen also announced that TCPAA will be holding a 2-day workshop
Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27,10-4 both days in Tucson at the Ward 6 office. The cost is $100. Well-known colored pencil artist Denise Howard will instruct us on “Textures.” She also has a new book out by the same title. Contact Maureen at [email protected] for more information and registration.
Exhibitions Report:
Elliot reported that the recent exhibit at the Shemer received wonderful accolades and they would like to have us back for a future show.
Virginia has contacted the Casa Grande Art Museum about holding a show there; the selection committee was meeting on June 4th so we should be hearing something in the near future. She is also looking into St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church for a possible show in November 2019. She says it’s a great venue and people there appreciate our shows. Barbara said she would inquire at Art HQ at the West Valley Art Council, as well. Contact Virginia or Elliot if you have ideas for venues.
Programs Report-
The program for the next meeting is “utilizing mixed media” which is allowed in Explore This CPSA. This is a timely topic since the deadline for entries is in November. Any modified surface would be considered mixed media; for example dying paper with tea. Look on the CPSA website for specific criteria. Be thinking of ideas that would qualify for mixed media and bring them to the next meeting on Saturday, September 22 which will tentatively be held at the Mesa Arts Center. More information concerning the location will be sent out when all is finalized.
CPSA DC212 March Meeting 2018 Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 9AM, Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Ward 6 in Tucson. Members signed-in, 50/50 raffle tickets were purchased ($48 was collected), and trading cards were exchanged. Members present were: Scott Adams, Virginia Carroll, Howard Curtiss, Barbara Dahlstedt, Jackie Grossnickle, Marilyn Kloehn, Dominique Laroche, Maureen Lueck, Becky Neideffer,
Paula Olson and Debbie Shepard.
Shemer Art Show- The “Spring into Color” exhibit will be held at Shemer Art Center, 5005 E. Camelback Road in Phoenix. The exhibit will run from April 9-24. Submissions were to be sent to Virginia by March 16. Drop-off dates for the work are April 6-7 during business hours, 10AM-3PM. The reception will be April 19. Pick up will be during business hours on May 25.
June Meeting- Debbie Shepard is looking into securing the Windham Resort in Flagstaff to hold the June meeting which is tentatively set for Saturday, June 2. Barbara Dahlstedt will teach a workshop about under- painting dark colors in portraits.
CPSA Convention- Since she will be attending the Convention, Barbara Dahlstedt has requested that each of us in DC212 submit a 5”x7” original (no prints) colored pencil to be placed in a photo album which will then be on display and represent our Chapter at the CPSA Convention. Please bring your art to the June 2 meeting.
Arizona Sonora Desert Museum Ironwood Gallery- There was general consensus that DC212 would pursue having an exhibit at the ASDM Ironwood Gallery. This is quite a prestigious venue and there is a lengthy application process for being accepted. After being selected it takes about 4 years to actually get to show there. Howard Curtiss has agreed to take on the task of looking into the process for us.
Reorganization of CPSA DC 212- Tentative changes include: Barbara Dahlstedt as President. Virginia Carroll and Elliot Everson as Co-Coordinators for Exhibits. Scott Adams and Paula Olson to hold Co-Secretary positions. All of these changes would not become finalized until the annual meeting to be held in November 2018.
Before adjourning, the winning ticket was drawn for the 50/50 raffle; Paula Olson was the lucky winner of $24. Virginia shared a nifty suggestion for a “better” way to erase other than with a kneaded eraser; Alcolin Sticky Putty which she says is more aggressive, can be found online
The meeting was adjourned before 10AM so that members could attend the second day of the workshop, “Reflections on Gold and Silver” which was being conducted by Barbara Dahlstedt.
